Tourmaline, semiprecious stone

Tourmaline is classified as a semi-precious stone,  Its bright colors can come in a variety of tones and since it is translucent it can be back lit for a very dramatic statement.



Tourmaline gems originate in Sri Lanka,  were brought to Europe in great quantities by the Dutch East India Company to satisfy a demand for curiosities and gems. It was sometimes called the "Ceylonese [Sri Lankan] Magnet" because it could attract and then repel hot ashes due to its pyroelectric properties.

Is commonly  found in granite and granite pegmatites and in metamorphic rocks such as schist and marble. 


It is formed  in the voids deep underground that are filled with a rich hot liquid and when cooling begins the minerals crystallize and form Tourmaline crystals.  Almost every color of tourmaline can be found in Brazil.


This beautiful slabs with tourmaline inclusions, are available to be installed in in home projects. Countertops that will offer a  luxurious look to any home. Other applications such as fireplaces and wall features are also popular choices.
